When it comes time for Remembrance Day, our lodge will march to the cenotaph
in Markham and lay a wreath of remembrance. There are several remembrance
day events that many Masons will attend as a lodge and Markham Union
Lodge is no exception. In Markham, the Remembrance Day ceremonies and
march to the cenotaph begins at the Markham
District Veterans Association on the appointed day at the appointed time.
In December we hold a Festive Christmas and Holiday Season
party for all of our members and their families. Our Lodge also participates
in the Markham Santa Claus parade yearly. We enjoy all friends and family
that can come and join us as we parade with Markham in its joyous celebration.
The kids love it too!
In February we hold our open house and Friend to Friend evening at the
lodge. This event is an open door to all men who seek more information
about our lodge, its membership requirements and Freemasonry in general.
Also in February, typically on the first Saturday of
the month, our lodge's social club, Club 87 hosts our Annual Robert Burns
Supper. This again is for the members and their friends and families
to come and enjoy an evening of Scottish culture, a celebration of Scotland's
Bard, a feast and entertainment often provided by lively highland dance
troupes accompanied by pipe and drum bands.
When spring arrives, our lodge holds a Ladies Luncheon for all the wives,
partners and widows of the members of our lodge. This special event is
held for the women only so that they can meet and get to know each other.
In June, on the fourth (4th) Wednesday, we hold our annual Strawberry Night
event. This is our last meeting before we close the lodge for summer and
we celebrate the coming of summer with natures delicious offerings of strawberries
and a special evening of Masonic fellowship and brotherhood.
Also in June, our Lodge enjoys attending the The Toronto East District
Black and White Gala. Which is held in the name of charity to raise funds
for our District Deputy Grandmasters chosen charity.
In July and August, our Lodge is closed for the Summer, but there are still
Masonic events that are happening. Grand Lodge Annual Communication taking
place in mid July, our district Senior Wardens charity event happens in
August and all are welcome to enjoy their offerings.
During the year, various lodges will hold Blood Donation Drives for the
Canadian Blood Services. Whether you are a Mason or not, this is an incredibly
important donation that you too could make at any time.
Throughout the year, we encourage our members to travel through the district
and to attend other lodges and meet other brethren. All in an effort to
be happy and spread happiness!
