Greetings from all of us at
Markham Union Lodge No.87 It is our sincere hope that the light of Freemasonry can be spread as far and as wide into the world so that all together we can come to know each other in peaceful and harmonious fellowship. Markham Union Lodge No.87 has been an active lodge since before the confederation of the country of Canada. Our long and storied history is filled with individuals who made a real difference in the town and later the city of Markham and even so far as our province of Ontario and our country of Canada. Men from all walks of life have attended our meetings as members, engaged
in fellowship and learned our beautiful craft and used those lessons
to be happy and to spread happiness. Our principles of brotherly love,
relief and truth have been employed by men throughout the ages as a ways
and means of becoming better men, better family members and better citizens. Men of all creeds, backgrounds and professions are welcome to join into
Freemasonry. There are some requirements in that you must be a man, of
mature age (21 years) with a belief in a supreme being. Freemasonry is
not a religion though, or a replacement for religion, nor is it a handmaid
to religion. It is however a strong support for men of any faith
and does not contradict the precepts and tenets of those faiths that
are practiced among men. Each man who joins into Freemasonry comes of his own free will and accord.
Freemasonry is a fraternal order but does not invite members to join,
rather it is up to the individual man to inquire about membership by
their own volition. Hence the popular abbreviation you may have seen;
2B1ASK1, which alludes to the formerly mentioned method of approach to
Freemasonry. Thank you for your interest in Freemasonry and we sincerely hope you enjoy our site and the information it has to offer. W Bro.David W Jamieson
